Roe Nurseries, Inc., was founded in 1868 by Reverend J.P. Roe. He was a chaplain during the Civil War. After moving to Oshkosh, he began propagating grape vines and fruit trees. He went on to become a leader in the Oshkosh community.
The business continued with Reverend Roe’s son, grandson, and great-granddaughter, Mary Lou Brinkman. Mary Lou and her husband, Al, sold the nursery in 1976 to Gary Heinzl, who had worked for them for 10 years.
By this time, the business had evolved into more of a landscape contractor than a nursery grower. In 2005, Steve Heinzl took over the landscaping business. Gary and his wife, Darlene, continue to work with Steve.
